Why monitor before you act
Sticky monitor traps don’t control anything — they tell you what’s moving through a space and roughly how much, which is exactly the information you need before deciding whether a problem is real, growing, or already handled. Placing them along walls and in corners catches the routes crawling insects actually travel, and this calculator spaces them at a standard 10–20 ft interval, with a floor of one per corner.
Larger rooms get extra interior monitors, since open floor space away from the walls can hide activity that perimeter traps alone would miss.

What kind of traps is this calculator for?
Non-chemical sticky monitor traps (glue boards) used to detect and track which pests are present — not chemical bait stations. Monitoring is an identification tool: it tells you what's around and roughly how many, before you decide anything else.
Why is there a minimum of 4 perimeter traps?
Every rectangular room has 4 corners, and corners are where crawling pests most often travel, so a monitoring layout should cover all of them regardless of what the raw spacing math suggests for a small room.
When do interior traps get added?
Once the floor area passes roughly 250 sq ft per additional monitor, the calculator adds interior traps on top of the perimeter count — large open rooms benefit from a monitor away from the walls, not just around the edges.
